What C.S. Lewis and I have in common is our love for reading good books and the wonderment it brings to our active imaginations. Viktor Frankl, a Holocaust survivor and renowned psychotherapist, wrote a recollection of life at the Nazi concentration camps in Auschwitz in his book, Man's Search for Meaning. He observed that "A man who lets himself decline because he could not see any future goal found himself occupied with retrospective thoughts… They preferred to close their eyes and live in the past. Life for such people became meaningless."
Frankl also noticed that in an incredibly horrifying situation as the one he was in, spiritual life could deepen, which to him explains how prisoners of less robust natures survived the sordid conditions in the camp. It is through the examples of his fellow inmates, as well as his personal experiences that he made the realization that "the salvation of man is through love and in love."

My eldest daughter Veejay is on vacation and so the whole family decided to revisit San Fernando, La Union and Vigan, Ilocos Sur last weekend. It was a long-delayed wish-come-true for the family.

After a year-and-a-half after my retirement, I was again asked last week to resume doing a web ministry work I used to do for some 8 years previously -- disseminating relevant information electronically to all our pastors and membership nationwide in the denomination I'm affiliated with.
And just yesterday, the first email I sent to all our pastors nationwide was a July letter from Dr. Joseph Tkach, president of Grace Communion International. It was about how sometimes, we cannot handle the truth that is introduced before us -- and we resist it.
