Passive aggressive churchAre you a pastor of a local church? If so, there's no doubt you have encountered different types of personality right within your local church. One type is that of a passive aggressive personality. When this kind of passive aggressive trait is present in an organization, a local church or in the family, it can surely cause heartaches, misunderstandings and numerous other problems for those involved (and even those non-involved... to some extent).

Here is how Wikipedia defines the term passive-aggressive behavior -- "a personality trait, is passive, sometimes obstructionist resistance to following through with expectations in interpersonal or occupational situations. It is a personality trait marked by a pervasive pattern of negative attitudes and passive, usually disavowed resistance in interpersonal or occupational situations."

In the local church setting, this passive aggressive church member or a group of church members may on the surface agree (passively) with the plans and programs of the local pastor but their true colors are revealed by their consistent resistance to follow through with the plans and programs agreed upon by the local church. This church member's resistance can also be seen in where they place their donations contrary to the agreed upon local church mission and vision. They engage in character assassination and gossip. They easily get offended and find reasons to disagree with the pastor. They easily find and point out the pastor's faults and weaknesses and belittle him before the congregation. This is a sad situation in the local church.

If that is the case in your local church, it's truly a heart-breaking situation indeed. If it would seem that reconciliation is impossible, it would be good for that pastor in that situation to bail out soon and protect himself and his family from further and so much more heartache and misery. Each local church has its own characteristics -- good and bad -- and some among its membership do have a passive aggressive personality.

I know that the Lord will take care and cleanse his church. Thank you Lord.
